berlinale

first time ever, i was able to get tickets for berlinale. living almost for 9 years in berlin, i never been to berlinale before. it's because, EVERYONE usually talks about how impossible to get the tickets and for years that i didn't even bother to check. this year, somehow felt encouraged (last week's concert moved me i guess), and saved seats for 3 movies. given that i don't watch 3 movies even per year, it was a bold move since my studying years.

meine frau weint:

this was a beautiful movie, i enjoyed it so much. the movie was shot around treptower park, where i go for a run usually, and it was so summertime that deep in february it felt like a warm hug. rough notes from my phone:

the talk at the beginning like your collegues being closer to you, it's weird that you spend most of your time with the collegue but then you actually are not friends.
the conversation of girls breaking him to get into the talk sharing their privacy
treptower park in summer
cherries
lingo berries
the striped shirts
the haircuts
her biking with her yellow shirt, the wind and road noise with loaded trucks
the poetic script, conversations
search for meaning in her life
wtf is this clear slow german?
again treptower park in summer, clear sky, dawn, dusk, night, day, the bus stop where I end my runs
the quote about what language is for? to fill the space between the people. the david saying her feet is soft while dying, it fills the space in between them, the space in car
the guy's innocence and love for her
the DANCEEEEE, lover lover lover come back to me, leonard cohen - the liiiight!!!!

Roya:

this was heavy. i wanted to see melisa sozen acting in this persian movie. i didn't even know the subject. just because during last week's mor ve otesi concert, harun tekin suggested this movie featuring melisa sozen, i wanted to see. lucky us, without knowing, i got the premiere session appearantly. olaf scholz was also in the theater (what?!). the movie was though to watch. it was about a teacher jailed in cell in iran and losing her mind by time, and her flashbacks that we cannot differentiate the reality vs the illution after being exposed to heavy tortures. director, mahnaz mohammadi, apperantly she was jailed several times as well, and she is banned from making movies in iran. during the q&a, she said she had similar experiences in person, and also the many of her friends either comminting to suicide, or losing the sanity, and she said the movie was even censored highly to make it watch-able. the whole crew, they were all persians mostly, their voices were trembling to contemplate how it feels to endure the overall hardship and injustice for years and years and still collectively trying to create something after all. the moving q&a moments, and the movie being like a punch in the face, it was a diffucult night to digest.

A new Dawn:

this was an anime, from the main competition. althought the script was a little slow, and the translation to english wasn't strong, the colors were spectacular. it was a about a demolishing fireworks factory and yes, i enjoyed the fireworks, the colors, the cuteness. we watched this with ardic and melike, we signed off early for the movie, and had a beer during this 4pm session, felt like we skipped the school together.

before seeing these movies late in the week i was really struggling with winter peaking, and they actually changed my mood immensely. so much appreciated.

i am still pushing the needle on the tolstoy - thought on life book, i cannot admit to quit yet, will carry to sbahn until the next month.

started to read "in praise of shadows", good find from amazon suggestions lol. discusses the taste of east vs west on aestetics, how/why they differ. it's going quite well so far, might add a note about it in the books section later.

tried to make a lamp shade out of rice paper and chicken wire mesh but it didn't turn out well. the mesh was not friendly to work with and it's super annoying that it's not uniform or not well enough. so even if i measure, count the wires, i ended up with unequal sides. now i have 5 meters of chicken wire mesh at this millenial gray apartment lol. not sure if i will give it another attempt

listened to dylan henner this week during focus hours (as if i ever can focus this days), i don't even remember where i got the reference. but the album/song names are top notch :chef-kiss: also checked out the new album arranged for yavuz cetin songs bodrum sessions
