Flatland

Edwin A. Abbott

i was in the search of a new science fiction. after failing on three body problem, i wanted to give it another chance. the project hail mary was in my wishlist but it was out of stock, and this book was staff choice on the shelf. the note pulled my attention on universe described in 2d. i was like, this is the book! IT WAS THE BOOK.

notes:

* thinking the flow of incrementing the dimension like from dot to line, line to square, square to cube, and from cube - what? how?

* the idea of the whole book, like what do you mean you wanted to write fiction on this abstraction in 1884.

* the visibility issues to objects to each other when things are 2d. not having the shade and the light. fog and touch techniques. forbidding square houses not to hurt habitants, this was hilarious.

* hiearchy between the shapes, workers being very thin triangles, academicians being square.. most noble being the circle. women being a line all the time, that hurt a bit but, again the book is written in 1884. switzerland gave women the right to vote in 1971. expectations are low in this universe

* but it was quite entertaining. although the language was heavy in some parts, i enjoyed with the idea so much.
