Novelist as a Vocation

Haruki Murakami

i haven't read any novels from murakami, somehow i just read his essays on his life. this guy has so much influence in me, this book and the running one. i know that he is criticized by his female characters in his novels but since i dind't read any novels from him, i am safe to keep his influence on me so far :d this book was about his life as a writer and the creative process behind. being on the desk everyday, the writing routine and his exercise routine and discipline of keeping both feeding each other. i found it extremely inspiring to stay in the flow of coding, flow of writing, flow of creating at desk and to be able to do that exercizing routinely. this routine, this rythym and discipline being the part of the creativity.

one thing i remember boldly from this book was, he didn't have good english. yet he kept writing in english and then translating to japanese. he was saying that this limitation made him to think simpler. because he didn't need the complex words holding all, he could just use the simpler english words in an effective combination. and later he translates the books into japanese. and this also makes brings him creative advantage because the simplicity gets reflected in japanese version as well and that becomes his voice/signature. who would have guess..
