The Order of Time

Carlo Rovelli

one of the best reads so far. what is time? i was a little bit obsessed with what is time idea, and wanted to literally dive deep into this topic. couldn't find what it maps with how i feel, time in life being circular and our personal seasons. but although the idea derailed a bit from this, this book was an amazing read.

* there is no time dimension on quantum level, it's just a helper for us to understand the world

* time is different on the mountains than the sea level, it's different in certain speeds.

* there is no global now. like what is now to you at the moment of now, for someone who is 100 light years away from you. can you tell a global now? if not, does now exists or it's just past and future?

* it all explained by thermodynamics, with the entropy concept. the thing it makes the time is the difference on the entropy we observe and that's what makes past and future.

* the world does not consists of entities, rather event driven, everything has their temporary periods, even the earth as a planet, even a stone, it's just a different span than our observation capabilities but one day this word will just become dust. (bu dunya soguyacak gunun birinde)

* the blur effect of entropy changing, creates how we interact with the past, present and future

* so the time we think is not how we accept as another dimention, it's just how we make sense of our interactions with the world.

also from life perspective this is what remained with me by this book:

time is just a way of us experienceing the delta of the change. change is the only thing, nothing is permanent. chaos will get more chaotic all the time. the universe moves from order to disorder allll the time and that's what gives us the past vs future. the aim is, the help of time, our concious organizes our observation and what we interact and how we experience and how to make sense of it. this way we are able to remember the past (low entropy) and estimate/imagine future (high entropy), which allows us to find the patterns, make stories and create meaning. so it's an existential need, rather than a cosmic reality. what remains withou that helper method is just the constant acceptance of the change and disorder and make connections and meanings on the go.
